Raise your own funds

Why wait for the right grant to come along when you can raise your own funds online? There are quite a few crowdfunding platforms to choose from and some new ones coming along that focus on projects for social good. To make a strong crowdfunding campaign, create a video that inspires people to give to your project, sign up to one of the sites below (or another one you've found), create rewards for people who donate and go wild promoting your campaign.
Chuffed is a social enterprise crowdfunding platform that doesn't collect fees, but instead, suggests that donors add a small amount to their donation to give to Chuffed. Chuffed is also set up so that the donor pays the merchant transaction fee so that 100% of the donation goes to the campaign. All campaigns on Chuffed are 'Keep what you get' campaigns, meaning the campaign receives all funds donated to it by the deadline, regardless of whether or not they have reached their funding target. Chuffed don't penalise you for not hitting your target.
Start Some Good
Start some good is especially designed for social good projects and offers a platform to promote your campaign through video (campaigns with videos raise double the funds of those without) and offering incentives for people to donate. SSG provides a whole plan from building your campaign, promoting your campaign and growing community. Unlike some other crowdfunding platforms, it uses a tipping point rather than absolute goal for fund raising (i.e. you get to keep the funds you raised even if you don't reach your goal). SSG levies a fee of 5% of the total funds received by a campaign plus paypal transaction fees. Just like the initiatives using our site we only receive our share if a campaign reaches its tipping point. If a campaign fails to reach its tipping point, then StartSomeGood does not receive any fees. There is no up-front or setup cost.
Indigogo has a global profile as a major crowdfunding platform and accepts any kind of project. It’s free to sign up, to create a campaign, and to contribute to a campaign. If your campaign is set up as flexible funding, you will be able to keep the funds you raise, even if you don't meet your goal. If your campaign is set up as fixed funding, all contributions will be returned to your funders if you do not meet your goal. Flexible funding campaigns that meet their goal are only charged 4% as our platform fee (plus credit card and paypal fees), whereas campaigns that do not meet their goal are charged 9%.
Kickstarter and Pozible
Kickstarter and Pozible are for creative projects and use the all or nothing funding model where you only keep the funds if you reach your funding goal. Pozible and Kickstarted charge the standard 5% fee if your project is successful, plus credit card and paypal fees.
