Come live with me in a townhouse complex in beautiful Mernda (derived from an Indigenous word meaning "Earth"). I have lived here for almost 2 years and it’s time to share the space with someone else.
I have rented the property from a lovely and generous landlady since December 2019. There is an amazing set of ponds nearby with breeding swans and other birdlife which I visit daily. Plenty Gorge is only 24 min drive away with kangaroos, echidna, native birds, walking and bike tracks. There are many other nearby waterways to explore too.
Native birds also visit my backyard to be fed daily...there’s Cockies, a pair of Rainbow Lorikeets and the occasional Rosella. Cricket and frog calls can also be heard from down the way.
I have previously shared with people at other properties for over 10 years.
This is a place that is first and foremost aligned with caring for people, and planet. I always aim to practice recycling, composting, very little plastic, mostly chemical free and building on the herb and veggie garden!
More about the place...
The yard is a reasonably spacious measure of rented goodness and gets sunlight later in the day. I have some herbs growing and are slowly establishing some veggies in pots. There is also a potted lemon tree and curry plants, (I also have some awesome cacti). I would love to establish a bee hive (worm farm is on hold) and perhaps get an outdoor bath and the double hammock needs putting up and some fairy lights wouldn't go astray!
The partly gravel yard also has a comfy old leather armchair, outdoor table and chairs shaded by a gum tree. It's nice to also sit on the ground underneath as the trunk is big enough to support your back and small enough to feel it sway in the wind. Plenty of outside space to chill and enjoy.
As the townhouse is carpeted throughout and being only 8yo the temperature stays moderate in summer and winter. There is split heating/cooling downstairs plus portable fan/heater available to use in other areas.
The Queen bedroom gets the afternoon sun and has a nice green view of the backyard. You are welcome to use the small alcove room as your own for workspace hobby/chill area etc.
The shared bathroom has a double vanity and drawer/cupboard space. There is a separate toilet both up and downstairs and the laundry is downstairs.
I am just off Mernda Village Drive (which is off Plenty Road). Woolies is a 2 min drive (or Coles is 5 mins away as is the train/bus station). The 386 bus stop is 350 metres away. There's a new shopping complex being built around the train station otherwise Plenty Valley complex is a 15 min drive away.
You’ll be living with Jeanette. I am friendly, are young at heart in my 50’s, oh, and my mature-age, charming cat Sam. I’m happy to share some meals or keep them separate (plenty of space to add a separate pantry). I listen to mainly jazz or chill music or sometimes opera and watch some non commercial tv. I also do an expressive online dance class weekly (Sam sometimes joins in!) I have a succulent plant arrangement hobby, like meditation, board games, Sudoku, hanging out, going on walks, bike rides, a spot of yoga, visiting the local swans/bird wildlife, talking nonsense, happy to initiate pancake breakfast on Sundays and planning to overthrow capitalism.
A little more about me!
I am currently in between jobs (customer service/administration) and am looking for possibly swapping to part time hours to focus on helping local environment an wildlife issues and a better work/life balance. This would be at home and I have a desk setup downstairs for a better work/life balance. If it wasn’t for you know what I’d be in a Thailand jungle with elephants and Karen tribe people. I am interested in self-healing (Reiki and poultice) and fossicking for urban/rural treasure.
What I am looking for in a collaborator? You are respectful, sharing, caring, creative, playful, and considerate, whilst able to be autonomous. Vegan and vegetarian diets are preferred, but open to others. Queer and quirky types will be most welcome and safe in or space. A male or female person is welcome but no more pets as Sam thinks he is cat enough to have that covered.
The available rooms ~
A. The bedroom will fit a Queen sized bed facing either 2 ways.
B. The alcove has no door and is at the top of the stairs ;-)
Spaces are available now.
The bills will be halved for electricity, gas, water and wifi.
Long term preferable, but open to other situations.
Please send me a letter of introduction or any questions, to the jeanette.wightgmail.com if you think you may be the one.
