We think we have found the perfect life hack – semi-rural living still close to the city. We are 30 mins drive to Coburg. 10 minute bike ride to Wattle Glen train station or 15 minute drive to the Birrarrung – Yarra river for swims. But of course our home has it's charms that you don't need to travel anywhere for.
Imagine this. You are driving along an unsealed dirt road, wallabies and rabbits rustle in the bushes. You turn right and enter our driveway, winding past a basketball court with ground covered in moss. You pass an orchard of young fruit trees to your left and a dam to your right, our excellent neighbours, then you arrive at our house.
Surrounded by gardens on all sides, the house overlooks a valley to the west where the sun sets. Inside, there are 4 medium-small bedrooms (with big ceiling to floor windows), one master bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, a large communal working/studio space, an open plan kitchen with a dining/lounge space, a kitchen ‘nook’, a winter lounge room, and two fireplaces. Outside there is also a caravan, outside dining and lounge area, and a carport set up as an outdoor cinema / workspace.
Our home lends itself to collective living – shared meals, shared studio/work areas, shared food, regular communication and house projects. There is space for coming together, but also for solitude. We are devoted to our home being a community resource for respite. In that spirit we have a permanent solidarity room available for immediate networks, and broader ones once the house settles.
We are sad to see our two much loved housemates go interstate, but we feel in our hearts they will be back ❤. We have many rooms we could fill or remix according to the needs of incoming housemates including for couples. We want to add people incrementally if possible, so we can build the house community together. Ideally were aiming for 2 more people with us by the start of June. It’s likely there will be further rooms available ongoing though, so check back in if you need to.
